A chargeback happens when a purchaser contacts their bank and disputes a payment. People usually do this when they do not recognise the purchase or are unhappy with what they received.
What happens immediately
When a chargeback claim is lodged, the amount the participant paid, plus a penalty fee, is deducted straight away by Stripe, the payment partner. This deduction happens before anything is investigated.
Who challenges it
Race Space challenges the claim on your behalf. You do not need to do anything. The vast majority of challenges are won, and when a challenge succeeds you are re-credited with the full amount to your Race Space account.
If the challenge is lost, the amount stays deducted from your Race Space account.
How long it takes
Chargeback cases can take up to three months to conclude. If a case is open, expect it to sit unresolved on your account for a while. That is normal and does not mean it has been forgotten.
