How do instalment plans work and how do I offer them?

Switching on instalments, the limits Race Space enforces on plan length and timing, what happens when a card fails, and where to monitor plans.

Instalments let participants spread the cost of entry rather than paying everything upfront. The feature is fully automated. Switch it on or off in the Racer Services section of the Event Creator, where you also set how many instalments participants can use, anywhere between 2 and 12.

The protections built in

Race Space never allows the final instalment to fall less than a month before race day, so you are not still collecting money after the event has happened.

If a participant's card expires part way through a plan, Race Space sends them reminders to update it. If they let it expire without updating after those prompts, you are notified as the organiser and can remove the participant from the race.

Monitoring your instalment plans

Go to Finance > Installments. This lists every participant paying for your events by instalment.

Use the blue tabs below the graph to filter by plan status:

  • Warnings. The participant's card has defaulted and they have received at least one automated email from Race Space. You can see how many warnings they have had and decide what to do.

  • In Progress. Plans running normally.

  • Complete. Plans paid off in full.

  • All. Every plan regardless of status.

The graph on the same screen shows how much income you are due from instalment payments over the coming months, which is useful for cashflow planning.
