What is booking protection and should I offer it?

How refund protection works as an add-on at checkout, the 10% revenue share, and the circumstances the cover includes.

Booking protection is a refund protection service provided by XCover, integrated into Race Space. Switch it on in the Racer Services section of the event editor, and your participants are then offered the option of protecting their purchase for a small additional fee at checkout.

What you get from offering it

10% of the protection fee is returned to you as an additional income stream. There is no cost to you for switching it on.

What the cover includes

Participants who buy protection may be eligible for a full refund if they cannot attend because of:

  • Public transport or mechanical disruption

  • Personal or family member injury, including pre-existing conditions

  • Death of the purchaser or a family member

  • Jury service

  • Redundancy or relocation

  • Burglary or fire

  • Armed forces protection

  • Adverse weather which prevents them from using their entry

XCover's full terms and conditions are the definitive statement of what is covered.

What happens when a participant claims

Claims go to XCover directly, not to you and not to Race Space. Participants make the claim themselves at xcover.com. A participant who bought protection and cannot attend therefore does not need a refund from you.

Participants who bought protection before XCover took over from Booking Protect claim through Booking Protect instead. If someone tells you they cannot attend and mentions protection, it is worth asking when they entered.
